Football Films to Get You Ready for the Season

There’s nothing like a good football movie to get you in the mood for the season and inspire you to learn more about the game.

We haven’t seen every football film out there, but here’s a countdown of our top 3:

IMDB Description: When a plane crash claims the lives of members of the Marshall University football team and some of its fans, the team’s new coach and his surviving players try to keep the football program alive.

Reasons to Watch: Matthew McConaughey.  Alright, alright, alright.  Matthew Fox.

2. The Blind Side (2009)

IMDB Description: The story of Michael Oher, a homeless and traumatized boy who became an All American football player and first round NFL draft pick with the help of a caring woman and her family.

Reasons to Watch: Sandra Bullock.  “True story” aspect – you can see the real-life inspiration, Michael Oher, playing for the Titans right now and follow the sassy Leigh Anne Tuohy on Twitter.  The book is worth reading as well, as it shows a different perspective than the movie.

1. Remember the Titans (2000)

IMDB Description: The true story of a newly appointed African-American coach and his high school team on their first season as a racially integrated unit.

Reasons to Watch: Denzel Washington.  Phenomenal Soundtrack.  “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” locker room singing scene.

Did you notice a theme here?  These are all based on true stories!  That’s reason enough to watch football.  The sport is made for great story lines. You never know if the game or player you are watching is going to be the inspiration for the next great football movie.

What’s your favorite football movie?
