Favorite Link Friday NFL January 30

We’re kicking off Super Bowl weekend with some of our favorite NFL stories from the web this week.

Here’s your Super Bowl edition of Favorite Link Friday:

If you have 5 minutes to kill…

1. When They Were Younger – Continuing their series from last year, the MMQB reached out to Super Bowl players’ former college and high school coaches and asked them to share favorite memories. Stories include QB Tom Brady being stuffed in a locker, Pats tight end Tim Wright and his hair-cutting skills, and Seattle kicker Steven Hauschka’s 3.8 GPA as a neuroscience major.

If you have 10 minutes to kill…

2. The Real DeflateGate Scandal Is That Anyone Cares – Chris Kluwe was known for being an outspoken player during his eight seasons as a punter with the Vikings and he doesn’t hold back in this essay posted on Time’s website. Whether you agree or disagree with him, he brings up some interesting points related to the league and DeflateGate.

If you have 20 minutes to kill…

3. Tom Brady Cannot Stop – Maybe you think Tom Brady is one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time or maybe you think he’s a pretty boy and he annoys the heck out of you – either way you should read this in-depth profile on Tom from the New York Times. Well-written and full of interesting details, this article shows what makes this 37-year-old tick. Just think of it as a human interest story, where the subject happens to be married to a super model.

There’s no “if” here – this is a must-watch…

4. Seattle RB Marshawn Lynch (a.k.a. Skittles) and Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (a.k.a. Gronk) hang out with Conan O’Brien and play video games. Almost wet ourselves watching this. Too many good one-liners to count. Gronk is always entertaining, but this is the side of Skittles we don’t get to see and we love it.

Hope these articles get you ready for what is sure to be a great Super Bowl!

Favorite Link Friday - NFL Stories - December 12, 2014

We haven’t done a Favorite Link Friday in a while, but with the release of Gronk’s ESPN interview and kitten pictures…well, we had no choice.

Here’s your Gronk-tastic edition of Favorite Link Friday:

If you have 1 minute to kill…

1. Gronk Photo Gallery – Please do yourself a favor and click through the Gronk photo gallery. I’m still deciding which one I want blown up to poster size so Val can give it to me for Christmas. He’s a special one.

If you have 5 minutes to kill…

2. Gronk! The Interview – This gives you a taste of what goes on inside Gronk’s head. It’s a little scary, but I wouldn’t expect anything else.

If you have 5 more minutes to kill…

3. Gronk Goes Holiday Gift Shopping –  Join Gronk on his shopping trip around Patriot Place trying to figure out what to get his family. He starts his trip in Victoria’s Secret and then Gronk-spikes an Ugg boot. Laugh all you want, but the man has got it all figured out why it’s good to get socks for gifts.

Unlike Gronk, I’ve still got some holiday shopping left to finish. If you’re still searching for the perfect gift, check out our Football Fan gift guide to get some ideas for the football lovin’ ladies in your life. Val and I will accept any of these. Or a gigantic poster of Gronk with a kitten. That works too.

Favorite Link Friday Oct 10 The Snap

Fridays are always exciting because…well…they’re Fridays.

This Friday, however, is super exciting because it means we’re one day closer to some epic Snap content that we’ll be posting over the next week.  We’re not going to tell you what’s going down, so we guess you’ll just have to come back to see what we have in store for you.

*cue evil laughter* Wahahahaha.

This is what we thought was worth passing along to you from this week in football news…

If you have 1 minute to kill and/or like Bradley Cooper…

1. We wonder if Bradley Cooper dislikes New York or he’s just channeling his Silver Linings Playbook character. Regardless, it should be a great game.

If you have 5 minutes to kill…

2. A Rookie All Over Again – Ever wonder what happens after a player retires? This gem from Monday Morning Quarterback reporter Jenny Vrentas answers that question and more as she finds out what happens when you trade the NFL lifestyle for law school with the recently retired cornerback Chris Carr.

If you have 15 minutes to kill…

3) How can NFL fix its perception problem? Help is in the locker room – Can’t get enough of Coach Chrissy Carew from our Insightful Player post? She and some of her players are mentioned in this article by Jason La Canfora.

In other news, our mom took a break from dominating her fantasy league this week and finally signed up for email alerts from The Snap. That means you should too. (We mean sign up for our email alerts, but feel free to dominate in your fantasy league too. We approve of both.)

You're my favorite! (2)

What a crazy week! We’ve got some good stuff for you, this first week of October. After all, we read just about everything that didn’t have to do with the Patriots’ Monday Night shellacking.

Here are some of our favorite football-related online finds of the week…

If you have 5 minutes to kill…

1. Let’s Talk About It – Clearly Derek Jeter doesn’t know the definition of retirement. Two days after his last game, he announced the creation of The Player’s Tribune, a new media platform for athletes. Russell Wilson (Seattle QB) was named a Senior Editor yesterday and subsequently posted this opinion piece on domestic violence. We’re looking forward to seeing what kind of content is to come on The Player’s Tribune.

If you have 10 minutes to kill…

2. Matthew McConaughey Longhorns Pep Talk – Sure, the video clip is only 5 minutes long, but you’re going to need to watch it twice to understand what exactly Mr. McConaughey is trying to tell the Texas Longhorns football team. I felt like I was watching an episode of True Detective, which meant that I didn’t know what was going on at all. The best part might actually be McConaughey’s son looking bored out of his mind. Alright, alright, alright.

If you have 20 minutes to kill…

3. Jim Harbaugh Comfortable in Chaos – Time for you to get to know one of the Harbaugh brothers. (Jim is the head coach of the 49ers. Jim’s older brother, John, is the head coach of the Ravens.) This ESPN profile feature uses a decent amount of football terminology, but the overall focus is on Harbaugh’s personality. I’d probably cry on a regular basis if I worked for the guy, but seems like there’s a method to his madness.

Have you “liked” us on Facebook yet? If not, you should get on that. We bet Tim Tebow would totally approve.

The Snap Blog Football Links Articles

Not that you care, but my laundry situation is finally under control.

Here are some of our favorite football-related finds on the internet this week:

1) Bond of Brothers – Our favorite football articles are often ones that have very little to do with a player’s performance on-field. This piece from NFL.com is about the bromance of Roddy White and Julio Jones, the dynamic wide receiver duo in Atlanta. Julio is Val’s Fantasy BFF, and we just love these guys in general.

2) Looking Through Bulletproof Windows – A timely piece on Monday Morning Quarterback written by an NFL player. Pittsburgh cornerback William Gay shares how domestic abuse affected his life and the importance of speaking up to prevent abuse.

3) This was all over the web this week, but if you missed it, you need to watch it and then go do something fantastic with your life. When does this kid’s motivational speaking tour start?

Don’t forget to sign up for email alerts using the button to the right to get a notifications every time we post something. Share the love and sign up your friends while you’re at it too. They’ll thank you later!

Have a faaaantastic weekend!

The Snap Football Blog Favorite Links Sept 19

Our original plan was to bring you our favorite football reads and/or links every Friday. That’s kinda still the plan, but we’re not holding ourselves to every Friday because we have “real” jobs and other stuff to do, like laundry and grocery shopping.

Have you ever looked at a pile of laundry and thought to yourself, “That’s terrifying. If that pile falls over, I could actually suffocate and die.” That’s my life right now.

Anyway, enough about my dirty laundry. This is what you should read/watch while you’re pretending to do work this afternoon:

1) Football is Full of Heart (Peter King, Monday Morning Quarterback) – I’m sure you’ve heard the Devon Still story. Still is the Bengals player who was originally cut and then brought back onto the practice squad so that he could keep his insurance and pay for his daughter’s cancer treatment. This hits home for us because of the Delaware connection – Still went to high school there and it’s where his daughter currently resides. We can attest to the fact that A.I. duPont Children’s Hospital is one of the best, so we are sending positive thoughts to the Still family!

2) Fake Punt Collapse – This may have shown up on your Facebook feed, but I don’t care. You should watch this again because it is so bizarre and hilarious. If an Oscar nomination doesn’t come out of this, I won’t know what to do with myself.

3. Freddie Falcon Takes Care of Business – Have you ever seen a falcon tackle a pirate? I hadn’t before now and I think my life has actually changed for the better. What’s really sad is how this video actually foreshadowed the end result of the game (Atlanta 56, Tampa Bay 14). Ouch.

Have any favorite articles that we missed this week? Let us know in the comments!
